Summary

We had no warning that she’d come back。

Hollow’s Edge used to be a quiet place。 A private and idyllic neighborhood where neighbors dropped in on neighbors, celebrated graduation and holiday parties together, and looked out for one another。 But then came the murder of Brandon and Fiona Truett。 A year and a half later, Hollow’s Edge is simmering。 The residents are trapped, unable to sell their homes, confronted daily by the empty Truett house, and suffocated by their trial testimonies that implicated one of their own。 Ruby Fletcher。 And now, Ruby’s back。

With her conviction overturned, Ruby waltzes right back to Hollow’s Edge, and into the home she once shared with Harper Nash。 Harper, five years older, has always treated Ruby like a wayward younger sister。 But now she’s terrified。 What possible good could come of Ruby returning to the scene of the crime? And how can she possibly turn her away, when she knows Ruby has nowhere to go?

Within days, suspicion spreads like a virus across Hollow’s Edge。 It’s increasingly clear that not everyone told the truth about the night of the Truett’s murders。 And when Harper begins receiving threatening notes, she realizes she has to uncover the truth before someone else becomes the killer’s next victim。

This was a 3。5 star read for me, but I am rounding up to 4 because it was a quick and fun read。 I don't normally read thrillers, and this book reminded me that I do enjoy the mystery and I should mix in one into my reading a bit more often。 This particular thriller takes place in a quiet, seemingly safe small neighborhood called Hollow's Edge。 I loved the description of the setting and the role that it played in the mystery。 I also found the map in the front of the book helpful in remembering wh This was a 3。5 star read for me, but I am rounding up to 4 because it was a quick and fun read。 I don't normally read thrillers, and this book reminded me that I do enjoy the mystery and I should mix in one into my reading a bit more often。 This particular thriller takes place in a quiet, seemingly safe small neighborhood called Hollow's Edge。 I loved the description of the setting and the role that it played in the mystery。 I also found the map in the front of the book helpful in remembering who lives where, as this definitely plays into trying to solve the crime that has terrified this quaint little neighborhood。 One of the things I enjoyed about this book was the idea that we all make assumptions about others that are often not based in reality at all。 This book was a good reminder to check those assumptions and realize that we usually don't have the whole story about people's private lives。 I enjoyed being taken on the ride of seeing other people through the eyes of the narrator, Harper, and watching as she unravels the mystery of what has happened in Hollow's Edge。 I found the end of some of the chapters to be a bit repetitive with Harper coming back to the same questions again and again。 I also did start to figure out what the twist was going to be before Harper fully realizes it。 But, these things did not take away from my enjoyment of the book。 This is a fun story to get caught up in! For fans of Big Little Lies and Little Fires EverywhereI think Megan Miranada is one of the best, current domestic suspense authors。 She is brilliant at creating a creepy, relatable atmosphere filled with a cast of characters that you might find in your own life。In Such A Quiet Place, Miranda sets her mystery in Hollow’s Edge, a private suburb filled with nosey parkers。 They have a neighborhood watch, shared amenities and their own message board where everyone is in each other’s business。 All wa For fans of Big Little Lies and Little Fires EverywhereI think Megan Miranada is one of the best, current domestic suspense authors。 She is brilliant at creating a creepy, relatable atmosphere filled with a cast of characters that you might find in your own life。In Such A Quiet Place, Miranda sets her mystery in Hollow’s Edge, a private suburb filled with nosey parkers。 They have a neighborhood watch, shared amenities and their own message board where everyone is in each other’s business。 All was good in the hood until Brandon and Fiona Truett were found dead in their home from carbon monoxide poisoning。 Their dog walker and fellow Hollow’s Edge resident Ruby, was convicted for the double murder but after 14 months in jail she was exonerated on a technicality。 She is now back baby, and her former roommate and narrator Harper, isn’t sure if she is back for revenge, to clear her name, or to start fresh。One of the themes of this novel is surveillance。 How many times do you appear on someone’s camera each day? Can this be used to save you or incriminate you? Your digital footprint can be easily manipulated against you。 This novel definitely made me paranoid 😳This is a true domestic suspense, which means no crazy motivations, unreliable narrators or forced twists。 If you like thrillers packed with intense drama you will probably find this a slow read。 。。。more

-The premise of Such A Quiet Place had me hooked from the get-go, and overall, this is one of my favorite Megan Miranda books in a long while。 It is whodunit/locked room style story with a verrrryy slow burn (excruciatingly so, to be honest), and there are red herrings everywhere you look。 I suspected each and every character of being guilty at some point or another, and that sense of distrust and skepticism were integral to feeling “part of” the neighborhood, as Harper sought to unravel the events of that night。 Add some THOROUGHLY unlikable characters, and anyone could be the culprit。I thought the excerpts from the community message board were a clever touch that kept the pace from feeling brutal (because, as I mentioned, this one moves slooooooowwww), and really helped set the scene and tone of Hollow’s Edge。 The ending, however, left me a bit unfulfilled。 It wasn’t a bad ending (Megan Miranda is too talented for that), but maybe not the one I wanted - And it’s important to note that those are two separate things。 All-in-all, this is a solid read by a solid summer author, and I expect to see it in beach bags across the country this summer! 。。。more

I love MM but this was just didn’t hit the mark for me。 It had that slow simmer she is known for and I loved the actual concept behind the crime and the small community but something was missing。 I will say this would make an incredible tv adaption if it gets there。 I can’t say too much without giving it all away。

I love reading stories about neighborhoods where everyone knows everyone’s business。 I felt the paranoia and was on EDGE most of the time wondering who was going to pop out and do something…ANYTHING… But it was a slow burn with not a great payoff。 It could have been a GREAT story but it was just good。 I felt like I read a watered down version of The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street (without the aliens)。 Solid read if you like slow and simple lock-box thrillers。

I'm a fan of Megan Miranda's writing and was eager to read her new novel, Such a Quiet Place。Hollow's End is a gated neighbourhood, an idyllic place to live, where the neighbours all know each other, host neighbourhood events, maintain an online community board, help each other out and more。 Idyllic up to the point where two residents were murdered a year ago。 Another resident of Hollow's End was convicted of the murders - but the conviction was overturned。 And Ruby has returned to the neighbour I'm a fan of Megan Miranda's writing and was eager to read her new novel, Such a Quiet Place。Hollow's End is a gated neighbourhood, an idyllic place to live, where the neighbours all know each other, host neighbourhood events, maintain an online community board, help each other out and more。 Idyllic up to the point where two residents were murdered a year ago。 Another resident of Hollow's End was convicted of the murders - but the conviction was overturned。 And Ruby has returned to the neighbourhood/scene of the crime。 (And isn't the name Hollow's End just a little bit creepy?)Ohh, the places this plot could go! And go it does。 We meet all of the inhabitants and realize that that perfect veneer hides the sins and omissions of almost every resident。 Harper Nash is the one resident who was close to Ruby。 Harper was never quite sure of Ruby's guilt, but went to court and dutifully testified as to what she knew。 Was it really Ruby? Harp still has doubts。 But, she's under pressure from the rest of the neighbourhood to stick with the facts they presented last year。 They also want Harper to convince Ruby to leave。 Ruby is never given a voice, but is instead revealed through everyone else's memories, perceptions and actions。 The first half of the book is slower while we come to know all the players。 I loved the uncertainty as to who the real culprit was。 Miranda kept me guessing with each new twist added to the narrative。 I suspected every last one! Things move along much quicker in the second half of the book as the tension ramps up。This is a great mystery read, but also a nice exploration of privilege, mob mentality, community and more。 It's more than a little scary as it's not far from the truth at all。 The ending caught me unawares and was a wee bit of a stretch。 But overall, another great read from Megan Miranda。 。。。more

Such a Quiet Place is an enthralling and unsettlingly atmospheric domestic suspense novel about a neighbourhood in which friendliness and tight bonds curdle into disturbing chaos and a climate of intense suspicion between residents of a close-knit community。 25-year-old Ruby Fletcher had lived in the town of Hollow's Edge most of her life before she was convicted of the double murder of her neighbours Brandon and Fiona Truett fourteen months ago。 She was convicted, sentenced to 20 years in priso Such a Quiet Place is an enthralling and unsettlingly atmospheric domestic suspense novel about a neighbourhood in which friendliness and tight bonds curdle into disturbing chaos and a climate of intense suspicion between residents of a close-knit community。 25-year-old Ruby Fletcher had lived in the town of Hollow's Edge most of her life before she was convicted of the double murder of her neighbours Brandon and Fiona Truett fourteen months ago。 She was convicted, sentenced to 20 years in prison and incarcerated for just over a year on the basis of evidence contained in security camera footage, rampant speculation and testimony from those who liked her and those who did not, including her roommate Harper Nash。 When her conviction is overturned on a technicality she returns to the tight-knit lakeside town believing Harper will welcome her back to her old abode with open arms, but that is not exactly the case。 In the upper-middle-class neighbourhood, Ruby had lived on the crescent-shaped street of 10 homes situated right next door to each other。 They share amenities like the communal pool and have a neighbourhood watch group that doubles as a gossip factory。It is alleged that Ruby broke into the Truett’s home one evening, started the car up in the garage and opened the door leading into the house to ensure the couple would be suffocated due to carbon monoxide poisoning。 Ruby tells Harper that someone’s going to pay for what happened to her and proclaims, as she has from the start, her innocence。 Harper allows Ruby to move back in and pretty soon she’s asking herself the question: if Ruby is indeed innocent, then who committed this heinous crime? This is a compulsive, scintillating and original thriller with a beautifully woven plot and a neighbourhood where everybody knows everybody else’s business。 It reads like a contemporary version of Agatha Christie’s golden age mysteries and is based in a stunning picture postcard setting surrounded by dense woodland and a stone’s throw from the shimmering lake。 It's a disquieting, sinister novel with a series of twists and turns and a steadily increasing paranoia between the residents。 Taking place over 11 days, it's a riveting read with a large pool of plausible suspects and a tension that is ratcheted up until the nail-biting climax。 Highly recommended。 。。。more

This is my 3rd book by Megan Miranda and I remember really enjoying All the Missing Girls back in 2016。 Now we are in Hollow’s Edge where 2 boys were killed and Ruby was charged with their murder and got 14 years in jail。 Her lawyer got her conviction overturned and back she comes, back to the same neighborhood where the murders took place。 This book grabbed me from the very first page and I found myself not wanting to do anything else。 It was a pretty quick easy read with lots of deep dark secr This is my 3rd book by Megan Miranda and I remember really enjoying All the Missing Girls back in 2016。 Now we are in Hollow’s Edge where 2 boys were killed and Ruby was charged with their murder and got 14 years in jail。 Her lawyer got her conviction overturned and back she comes, back to the same neighborhood where the murders took place。 This book grabbed me from the very first page and I found myself not wanting to do anything else。 It was a pretty quick easy read with lots of deep dark secrets throughout。 Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release in exchange for my honest review。 To be published July 2021。 。。。more

Her every action screams distrust, screams revenge, and nothing she says is believable? Is it a surprise that the neighbors shun her and want her gone? That's where the story begins。 The tension builds from there until the crescendo of a twisted, unbelievable ending。 Read Megan Miranda's latest and you'll know that she's mastered the suspense thriller。Thanks to the BookLoft of German Village (Columbus, OH) http://www。bookloft。com for an ARC to read and review。 。。。more

Many thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for gifting me a digital ARC of the latest thriller by Megan Miranda - a must-read author for me。 4。5 stars! It's such a quiet place - who wouldn't want to live in Hollow's Edge? Such a Quiet Place is the new book from Megan Miranda。"Ruby is back in Hollow's Edge, a quiet neighborhood in a smaill college town。 At least it was until Ruby was convicted of killing the Truetts。 But her conviction was overturned based on some "new" evidence and Ruby has moved back in with Harper, who doesn't really want her there。 Now neighbors are afraid and don't know who to trust。 Because when Ruby was convicted they didn't tell the whole story。。。and now another neighbor is dead。"This is a Such a Quiet Place is the new book from Megan Miranda。"Ruby is back in Hollow's Edge, a quiet neighborhood in a smaill college town。 At least it was until Ruby was convicted of killing the Truetts。 But her conviction was overturned based on some "new" evidence and Ruby has moved back in with Harper, who doesn't really want her there。 Now neighbors are afraid and don't know who to trust。 Because when Ruby was convicted they didn't tell the whole story。。。and now another neighbor is dead。"This is a slow burn, domestic thriller。 Miranda lets us know that most of the neighbors have something to hide。 She doesn't reveal the truth until it's too late - and it's a surprise。 You probably won't guess the killer or what the secrets are。 Miranda does a good job disguising it。There's a part of the ending that was a little disappointing。 Miranda goes a different route but I was left with a "Oh, is that it?" I have to appreciate that it was a cliche ending。This is not a fast-paced thriller。 It's like floating lazily down the river and rounding a bend to find some Class IV rapids。 Fans of Miranda's previous books will enjoy this one。 。。。more
